Family Promise of Greater Des Moines to Cease Operations December 1, 2023
After thorough consideration, the Family Promise of Greater Des Moines Board of Directors has made the very difficult decision to cease operations as of December 1, 2023. Effective immediately, we are not admitting any new guest families and are actively helping our current families to find future assistance with program and community partners.
This decision was not made easily or lightly. Unfortunately, our organization has not returned to pre-pandemic volunteer and financial levels. Because our operational model relies so heavily on donated space and volunteers, both of which have declined dramatically, we’ve had to use financial resources to ensure guest families have safe overnight accommodations and meals.
The board made the proactive decision to cease operations sooner than later so that remaining finances can pay all debts and still provide care for current guest families until we officially close. LaToya Scott will remain in her position as executive director until December 31 to finalize all official organizational matters.
There are still many details the board is working through, but please be assured that we are helping current guest families find alternative accommodations and assistance in their greatest time of need.
We sincerely and whole-heartedly thank the countless individuals, businesses and sponsors who have gifted us with their time, talents and donations through the years. Hundreds of families have been helped out of homelessness because of your generosity, and for that, we are proud and humbled.
